Top South African Expert to Keynote Accra HR Summit
Accra-Senior Human Resource professionals from across Africa will meet in Accra on 24-25th June for the second annual Brighter Futures conference organised by Occupational Management Limited. This year’s main keynote speaker is Dr Cookie Govender who is lecturer at the Industrial Psychology and People Management Department at the Faculty of Management at University of Johannesburg.
Dr Govender’s key note address will focus on "Towards a Performance Management Model for Higher Education Employees".
She says “The question of what performance management means to employee and employer has not been answered yet, nor is there agreement on the criteria, purpose, direction, return on investment (ROI) or performance improvement. Research conducted at a an African city university during 2009 to 2011 reveals that at an institutional level, performance management means that employees have to be competent
and more than meet their job requirements if they think they deserve year-end bonus payouts.”
Delegates will also be addressed by other HR gurus including seasoned Ghanaian HR expert and award winner, Edward Kwapong, who will deliver a topic on “HR Leadership Pipeline”, drawing on his rich experience working with reputable companies in Ghana like Volta River Authority, Ashanti Goldfields and Ghana Commercial Bank. HR Practitioners, Employers, Job Seekers to Meet at Accra Expo
A 2-day Recruitment and Job fair aimed at stimulating the Ghanaian job market takes place in Accra on 24-25th June 2011 as part of the international HR event dubbed “Brighter Futures 2011”. Thousands of job seekers, graduates, students, national service personnel, people changing careers, etc are expected to view job vacancies, recruitment and Human Resource services and products on display whiles attending CV clinics and interview workshops to increase their chances of landing that illusive job.
The organizers, OML Africa, said, “Being the second edition of our flagship event, Brighter Futures 2011, offers a one-stop recruitment solution for job seekers as there will be a specially designed “Wall of Opportunity” that will serve as a massive job board on which will be displayed lots of job opportunities across all professions from engineering to chefs, medical personnel to domestic helps, etc in Ghana and internationally.”
Unemployment is on the increase in Ghana and the situation made more difficult by the lack of accurate data on the levels. The 2006 Country Economic Memorandum report of the World Bank stated that Ghana’s unemployment rate had declined from 75.9% to 71.6%. It however indicated that Accra has a more worrying unemployment problem with close to 10% of the active population being available for work even if only 50% of them are actively looking for a job.
“ The Brighter Futures 2011 expo, therefore provides an additional platform apart (from newspaper adverts) and other traditional avenues for job seekers to apply for vacancies, scout for jobs, register with recruitment agencies, learn tools that will enhance their job search and grab that job whiles availing themselves of available training courses that will enhance their career paths. HR Exhibition and Job Fair Opens in Accra
Accra gets ready to host an international Human Resource expo attracting over 30 recruiting agencies, employers, recruitment consultancies, HR software companies and service providers and training institutions on 24-25th June 2011. This exhibition, dubbed Brighter Futures 2011, is expected to be visited by thousands of job seekers, mid-career executives, students as well as senior HR decision-makers looking for the latest HR software, products and services on the market.
